Ambleside Parish Centre is the result of many years of planning and fundraising. It was opened in June 2007. The vision for this building came from members of St Mary's parish church. After miraculously being granted planning permission funding was sought from organisations, charities and individuals. Many donations (both large and small) were received from far and wide.
In an exciting development for church unity the Ambleside Methodist congregation also decided to become involved in the venture. The Methodist Church and adjoining hall were sold and converted into much needed local affordable housing and funds put towards the Centre. The plans for the new building were adapted to make space for the Methodist congregation. This now worships, each Sunday morning, in the Wesley Room which has magnificent views towards the fells.
The Centre is leased to an independent Trust consisting of representatives from both churches, local organisations and voluntary groups. The Trust also runs the now well established 'Our Place' youth project which meets in the Centre two evenings a week.
It has become a much sought-after venue for a wide variety of events.
